Baader's First Graders

Hi! My name is Rachel Baader. This is my 20th year teaching! I started as an LD Tutor for Fairborn City Schools. I taught for 10 years for Springfield City Schools. I spent these years at Roosevelt Middle School teaching a combination of special education, 6th grade reading, language arts, & math and 8th grade reading, language arts, & pre-algebra. After taking a year and a half off when my daughter was born, I was fortunate enough to be hired at Northwestern Schools. This made me very happy because it is the district I live in. I taught preschool at NWE for 8 years, and this is my first year teaching first grade. I am a graduate of Springfield South. I earned my bachelor degree at Wright State and my master's degree at Urbana University. I am currently working on a Reading Endorsement through the University of Dayton. This program was what inspired my to take my current teaching position. It has been exceedingly fulfilling teaching children to read this year. My students amaze me on a daily basis.
Recycling in our classroom
Description
Description We are now recycling at NWE! They kids are so excited when they can see that there is more in our recycling bin than in our trash can at the end of each day.
Zoo Assemblies

We have been fortunate enough to have two Columbus Zaoo assemblies this quarter. The students were thrilled with the live, up close presentation of animals from the zoo. The presenters where very informative and provided an entertaining and educational experience for our students.
Behavior Goals
As a classroom we have 2 behavior goals right now. We are working on having quiet hallway behavior. We are trying to earn 10 minutes of extra recess by receiving 10 compliments for walking quietly in line in the hall. Another focus we have is working quietly during center time. This is vital because while the student's are working on centers, I am working with guided reading groups. Center time is not completely silent, but I ask that students use a whisper voice and only talk to their own center partner.
