Levy Information

  • Northwestern Local Schools have two levies on the November ballot. Neither are new taxes and will not raise your taxes.

    • The first levy on the ballot is Northwestern’s permanent improvement renewal. It is a one mill levy that collects about $210,000 annually. This money pays for capital projects and items that will last for longer than 5 years.
    • The next levy on the ballot is Northwestern’s substitute levy. This is a levy to cover operating expenses.  The amount of revenue collected by this levy is $1,715,690.  This is nearly 9.5% of our operating budget.

      • Legally we cannot call the substitute levy a renewal and you will not see the word renewal on the ballot.  The ballot language states we are substituting one levy for an existing levy.  However, it essentially is a renewal because it is not new money and it will not increase taxes.
  • Without these levies, Northwestern Schools would look at making dramatic cuts. The substitute levy is roughly equivalent to 17 teachers and their total benefits package. Other things would go before teachers - Busing, extracurriculars, anything not essential to graduating students
  • Both the permanent improvement levy and the substitute levy are vital to the success of our schools. We do not have room in our budget to absorb the loss if either of these levies do not pass. The school has already seen a reduction in revenue because of COVID-19.
  • It is critical for our community to pass these two levies so we can continue to provide the best possible education for our students.

Northwestern Local Schools are the best schools in Clark County.
